ACT/NEA oral history project records 1974-1980.

The collection consists of oral histories and other materials relating to the establishment of ACT/NEA at the University of Rhode Island. Records include correspondence, memoranda, questionnaires, job descriptions, membership lists, news clippings, ACT/NEA constitution and by-laws, leaflets, newsletters, and release forms (1977-1980). Oral histories consist of tapes of interviews with sixteen individuals (1977-1978). No transcripts of the interviews exist. An article from the magazine Radical America (v.14, no.6 ; Nov./Dec., 1980) by Gail G. Sansbury entitled, "Now, what's the matter with you girls?", describing the formation of the union at the University is included in the collection.

The University of Rhode Island was chartered as the state's agricultural school in 1888. It became the Rhode Island College of Agricultural and Mechanic Arts in 1892 and the first class was graduated two years later.
